Several years ago I saw a postcard with a picture of a beautiful lake with majestic mountains behind it. The description said that the picture had been taken in a wilderness area and that the only way to get there was by horseback or on foot. No wonder the lake looked so beautiful and serene. It was unspoiled by crowds of people that would ordinarily gather at such a beautiful place. I was sad that I did not hike or ride horses and that I would never see that lake or other wilderness places. I was around 50 at the time and knew that I did not want to ride a horse and thought that I might be too old to start walking up mountains. I decided to go for a hike and it was so exhilarating that even though I got tired I kept going. I gradually got so that I could hike longer and more difficult hikes and I have been hiking ever since. Hiking has enabled me to see many beautiful places that I would not have seen otherwise, it is great exercise, a lot of fun and very relaxing. The rewards are great. By the way, I have been to that lake I saw on the postcard several times. This web site is to share some of my experiences and photographs. Please click on the links to the left for a visit to some of the National Parks where we have hiked and enjoy some of the spectacular scenery. |
